The first step to inner transformation is self-acceptance.
• Acceptance of who I am :
My character – My values – My beliefs
2 Peter 1:5 So don't lose a minute in building on what you've been given, complementing your basic faith with good character, spiritual understanding.
Proverbs 14:15 The gullible believe anything they're told; the prudent sift and weigh every word.
• Acceptance of my addictions and dependencies:
Chemical Relational and Habitual
Titus 3:7 God's gift has restored our relationship with him and given us back our lives. And there's more life to come—an eternity of life!
Proverbs 18:9 Slack habits and sloppy work are as bad as vandalism.
• Acceptance of my need for help
Emotional, Financial, Social And Spiritual
Proverbs 14:30 A sound mind makes for a robust body, but runaway emotions corrode the bones.
1 Peter 4:13 Instead, be glad that you are in the very thick of what Christ experienced. This is a spiritual refining process, with glory just around the corner.
• Acceptance of responsibility for my past, present and future.
Galatians 6:5 Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.
Step 6 is about my willingness to change; not just STOP, but to let God change the things that need to change in me so I can become the person He wants me to be.
Step 6 is about removing the things in my life that block personal relationship with God.
