Let God be God

Psalm 100:3 Know this: God is God. He made us; we didn't make him. We're his people, his well-tended sheep.

As we look at ourselves in recovery it is important for us to know. God is our Creator We did not create ourselves, nor did our parents or our life circumstances. Many of us as we pander to our addictions and compulsions adapt a stance of "Im right" - always "I know what's best for me" etc.

Whether we realise it or don't relaise it we see ourselves as the higher power. masters of our own destinies. This leads us to believe it's all about ME!

As we go through the examination of self and application of the recovery principles in our lives on a daily basis we will learn true recovery is about God increase - I decrease We well realise all we have is His and we will want to share what we have with others.

The Purpose of Recovery Church

Who is Recovery Church for? Recovery Church is for people with and in recovery from addictions!

What is the purpose of Recovery Church? The purpose of Recovery Church is to provide a safe environment where people can share their struggles and investigate the reality of Jesus Christ as the one true Higher Power in their lives. People are encouraged to put their faith in Jesus Christ and see their lives transformed through daily application of the Biblical principles from the Twelve Steps Program.

What do you do at Recovery Church? We commence with a time of worship, followed by a short message of interest and relevance to the group. We then break up into round-table discussions on the topic. There is also opportunity for people to share about any other struggles they may be experiencing in their recovery. At the end of the discussion, we have supper and fellowship. During this time, people are free to connect with others for support, and they are given referrals to other services if required.

How long does Recovery Church go?Recovery Church commences at 4:00pm and finishes at 5:30pm

Purpose Acrostic

Pursue God’s will
Col. 3:1 So if you're serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides.

Understand and live by God’s ways.
Psalm 119:144 The way you tell me to live is always right; help me understand it so I can live to the fullest.

Repeat what you have learned to others.
2 Tim. 2:14 Repeat these basic essentials over and over to God's people. Warn them before God against pious nitpicking, which chips away at the faith. It wears everyone out.

Perfect love for one another.
1 John 4:12 No one has seen God, ever. But if we love one another, God dwells deeply within us, and his love becomes complete in us—perfect love!

Own your recovery
Deut. 4:5 Pay attention: I'm teaching you the rules and
regulations that God commanded me, so that you may live by them in the land you are entering to take up ownership.

Share it with others
Hebrews 13:16 Make sure you don't take things for granted and go slack in working for the common good; share what you have with others. God takes particular pleasure in acts of worship—a different kind of "sacrifice"—that take place in kitchen and workplace and on the streets.

Experience all God has in store for you.
1 John 1:6 If we claim that we experience a shared life with him and continue to stumble around in the dark, we're obviously lying through our teeth—we're not living what we claim.

#1 Purpose

In order to be really transformed by God's grace, it is not only important to see what we now are (Step 4), but also important for us to see what Christ can make of us by His grace (Step 6&7)

Love Acrostic

Let Jesus Christ’s love live in you

Ephes. 3:16-17 I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength— Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love.

Obey His one commandment to love each other:

John 14:21 "The person who knows my commandments and keeps them, that's who loves me. And the person who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and make myself plain to him."

Value His love in dying for you

1 John 5:9 If we take human testimony at face value, how much more should we be reassured when God gives testimony as he does here, testifying concerning his Son.

Each forgiving one another in love

Ephesians 4:32 Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you.

#2: Love is a Commitment

Matthew 19:4 He answered, "Haven't you read in your Bible that the Creator originally made man and woman for each other, male and female?

#1 Love is a choice

Does this mean if you dislike someone you cannot recover? No! There will always be people we will not like as well as others, But we need to have an attitude of tolerance towards them. Failure to tolerate will lead to stinking thinking which will lead to relapse. If we choose to love others God will help us express love.

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. 1 John 3:16

Rely on each other

When others depend on us, it takes away our independence - unless we let them down.

2 John 1:5 But permit me a reminder, friends, and this is not a new commandment but simply a repetition of our original and basic charter: that we love each other.

Obey Acrostic

Open your mind and heart.
Matthew 10:26 "Don't be intimidated. Eventually
everything is going to be out in the open, and everyone will know how things really are.

Believe God wants what's best for you.
James 2:23 The full meaning of "believe" in the Scripture sentence, "Abraham believed God and was set right with God," includes his action. It's that mesh of believing and acting that got Abraham named "God's friend."

Example Jesus in your character.
Proverbs 11:6 Good character is the best insurance;
crooks get trapped in their sinful lust.

Yield to Gods purpose for your life
Romans 8:7 Focusing on the self is the opposite of
focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed in self
ignores God, ends up thinking more about self than God. That person ignores who God is and what he is doing.

#4 Obedience: Yield to Gods purpose for your life

Romans 8:7 Focusing on the self is the opposite of focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed in self ignores God, ends up thinking more about self than God. That person ignores who God is and what he is doing

It's not about me.... It's all about Him

#2 Obedience - for or against? Nothing in between

Luke 11:23 "This is war, and there is no neutral ground. If you're not on my side, you're the enemy; if you're not helping, you're making things worse.

Through Christ's victory over the devil restoration and recovery became available to us all. But we must be aware as we travel the road of recovery that everyday we are in a war and victory can only be achieved daily through continued obedience to God's plan and purpose for us.

Step three involves a decision to let God be in charge of our lives - 100% daily control of every part of it. 100% commitment from us to Him and His mission of transformation of the lives of those who still suffer.

Step 3 Made a decision to turn our will and lives over to the care of God..

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

#1 Obedience - Open your mind and heart to God.

Matthew 10:26 "Don't be intimidated. Eventually
everything is going to be out in the open, and everyone will know how things really are."

1. God loves you: James 5:11
2. You are special too Him: 1 Thessalonians 1:4
3. He Knows your thoughts: Psalm 68:20
4. He knows your heart: Deuteronomy 4:9

As we come to recovery we believe nobody knows us. What we are really like. The things we have gone through or what we need to recover from our pasts. The good news is God knows! and inspite of everything He loves us, thinks we are special, knows what we are thinking and feeling and still wants to help us to recover and become the people He designed us to be.

The other thing we all need to realise is that those closest to us also know us and want us to become the person God wants us to be.

Usually the only person who doesn't know how things really are is us. And through learning and applying the Christian principles of recovery to our lives we are embarking on the greatest self-discovery adventure we will ever experience.

Faith Acrostic

Firmly trust in God.
Genesis 18:14 Is anything too hard for God?

Always expect answers to prayer.
Matthew 21:22 Absolutely everything, ranging from small to large, as you make it a part of your believing prayer, gets included as you lay hold of God."

Into God’s service commit yourself.
John 6:29 Jesus said, "Throw your lot in with the One that God has sent. That kind of a commitment gets you in on God's works."

Trust God, for all things.
Psalm 2:12 if you make a run for God—you won't regret it!

Honestly share God’s word..
2 Corinthians 2:17 Don't take God's Word, water it down, and then take it to the streets to sell it cheap. We get what we say straight from God and say it as honestly as we can.
