Matthew 26:41 Stay alert; be in prayer so you don't wander into temptation without even knowing you're in danger. There is a part of you that is eager, ready for anything in God. But there's another part that's as lazy as an old dog sleeping by the fire."
Memories of good times we had whilst drinking and drugging is a source of temptation we have to guard against. In our minds we can paint a lovely picture of our drug of choice, in our favourite using space. We may only see the bright odours, warm atmosphere and good companions.
What we can fail to see is the drunk or addict in the corner with no money, no friends and possibly no home. When we participate in binges or sessions and feel good it is easy to forget the mornings after, full of remorse, guilt and arguments.
God is not a tempter, But Satan is! Our own lusts and desires can lead us astray. People will try and entice us often to cover their own addiction and inadequacies. But be sure God is our best safeguard. Not only does He protect us but He also provides us with power to resist, not just once but repeatedly.
Since I gave my life to God I have been aware of His guidance through times of temptation. It is my desire to follow where He leads me instead of following my own fantasies and desires. I know if I trust God today He will not lead me into temptation without providing me what I require to overcome it.
