The Salvation Army's roots have been deeply embedded in two biblical concepts - Souls and Justice. In other words, wherever you look, The Salvation Army was passionately committed to winning souls and setting the captives free from the effects of injustice - and William Booth's words made it abundantly clear where we should seek those lost souls - "Go for souls", Booth proclaimed, "and go for the worst".
The truth is, and as unpalatable as it might be for some, that The Salvation Army is NOT called to serve, or in fact, be subservient, to the middle or ruling classes. Our manifesto is to go for souls, and go for the worst. Its to loose the cords of justice, to break the yoke of injustice,to feed the hungry, cloth the naked, visit those in prison, befriend the lonely, to seek and save the lost. When we do this, we must always remember the words of Jesus, when He said, when you do these things to the least of these, you do it to me.
The concept of developing a recovery church at 614 rises up from the very heart of the early Salvation Army. But more importantly, it rises up from the very heart of Jesus Himself.
The idea is that a church will commence on Tuesday, April 6th @ 6.30pm at 69 Bourke Street, Melbourne.
It will feature worship which will be provided by people that are seeking healing and victory over their addictions. It will also feature preaching which will be designed to give very practical, but always biblical concepts that will help people have victory over their addictions. We will then meet in support groups to reflect on how we might be able to apply the teachings of Jesus that we have heard during the bible message.
Please cover this initiative with prayer. We are really believing that Jesus will have victory in people's lives, time and time again.
